In front of you is a jeep speeding across the deserted sea of Tunisia. The calendar shows the year 1942, and in the car are two representatives of the newly created the Special Air Service (SAS) a special forces unit of the British Army. If you still not saw BBC drama SAS Rougue Heroes - highly recommended it to you, I got a lot of inspiration in it and story stood behind that drama inspired me to this work.
Like in original history of SAS formation, everything went unplanned way. It must have been other model and figurines, but as a result I have to work with quite old – let`s say vintage model. Nevertheless, I have decided, that going to won those who dare.
I must admit that the level of detail on this model is generally good and the kit includes a model of the jeep, the crew and everything that is in the trunk. I decided on minimal additions - straps for bags and backpacks, a fencing for the cargo compartment with canisters. Everything else as it is.
Everything is painted with acrylic and oil paints using different painting techniques. Notice signs of wear like scratches or faded paint. Fuel leaks on the сans filler necks and pervasive desert sand.
And here is another small but effective detail - spent cartridges, which allow you to appreciate the scale and also allow you to feel the atmosphere of what is happening.
The theme of SAS has plethora of inspiration, that is why I am absolutely sure I will return to this topic and more than once. There is LRDG with their`s Patrol Chevrolet with lots of staff on board, there is SAS jeeps in Normandy… and many more. And even if something goes out of plan, who dares - wins.
