This story have started quite obvious: there is a person with anniversary and a gift have being required. Of course, no historical or military interests, so it would be definitely not a tank. This person is very into environment, the idea of how beautiful and fragile in the same moment it is so close to his heart. This gave me a hint to embody this into the work you can see.
Living tree itself a 3D-printed miniature reflect the image of fine and beauty of our nature, which is giving life to all leaving creatures.
The painting used elements of the “verdaccio” technique - popular in late medieval Italy for fresco painting. I have made contrast green pre-shading and then use different tones of brown in quite thin layers. As a result, the tree bark contains flesh tones, which additionally contributes to the image of a “living tree”.
The tree itself sits on a contrasting to the warm brown cold gray stone. This stone is made of foam, processed and painted using techniques used by Renaissance artists and modern model makers alike.
The final touch of the composition is the frame. The most ordinary thing for a photo – what makes it unusual is the concept. The entire composition - the Living Tree on the stone - seems to hang in emptiness, which technically focuses the viewer's attention on the composition, and also symbolizes the vulnerability and fragility of living nature. There is almost no magic in the implementation, the most ordinary glass from the same frame, simply fixed in it with a special way.
What is the main award for those who makes award? It is true reaction of person, who is getting this award, especially if it is a surprise. The hero of the day was definitely surprised and pleased by theme and idea of his gift. Moreover, as he told me, next day, after all holiday chores he continued to look at the diorama more closely, finding new previously unnoticed details and, which is the sweetest for me as an author, admiring them.
